Stopping Counterproductive Law

Situation

Government proposed ‘minor ‘changes to the Corporations Law designed to ensure investors better understood their investments.

The confidential changes would be rushed through Parliament.

Solution

I consulted select stakeholders and identified that the changes would have:

  • imposed high costs on fund managers;
  • made it harder for investors to access their money; and
  • led to major disputes between investors and managers.

I negotiated with the relevant government departments and the change did not proceed.
